Fancy, a 22-year-old Ugandan, is a committed youth advocate. She is passionate about social justice, especially through challenging harmful gender norms. Through her various work she pushes for positive social norm transformation and greater space for girls and young women. She is an active member of the Girl up Initiative and a facilitator for the “NI-Yetu Youth Program” – a Swahili word meaning “It is ours”. It is a social youth empowerment program integrating the promotion of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention. Through her role Fancy builds the capacity of youth to influence civic space to become more youth oriented, as well as to demand for state accountability to implement rights of young people. Fancy is a lawyer in the making at Islamic University in Kampala, where she is currently the Minister of Women Affairs at the faculty of Law.
