SCSD 2019

STOCKHOLM CIVIL SOCIETY DAYS 2019

Exchange of experiences and practices to inspire participants to make change happen.
Carin Jämtin Sida

SCSD – Change and Action to Leave No One Behind – takes place on 19-20 of November in Stockholm.  It is a reoccurring event that this year will focus on the 2030 Agenda and the core principle to Leave No One Behind (LNOB).

The 2030 Agenda holds the promise to build a better future, not just for the many, but for all. A future with equal rights and equal opportunities. Development cooperation is needed to reach this vision, and civil society has a unique capacity to identify, support and advocate for groups that are not otherwise seen or heard. At the same time the civil society dynamic is changing globally, and as part of the development effectiveness agenda – we need to do more, do better and be braver.

The aim of Stockholm Civil Society Days is to build on what has already been accomplished through civil society participation and engagement and drive joint thinking, efforts and action. We encourage participants to jointly strive to concertize both challenges and solutions for civil society in advancing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In concrete terms we aim to uncover the following:

  • Role of civil society in securing Leave No One Behind
  • Change: Obstacles and potential restrictions
  • Action: Opportunities and strategies to transform

SCSD is co-organised by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and CONCORD Sweden, a platform of Swedish civil society organisations working towards sustainable development.

Are we reaching the most vulnerable and those left behind?

The purpose of SCSD is an exchange of experiences and practices to inspire participants to make change and action happen. The focus is not on formulating the problem or showcasing glossy achievements, but on questioning old truths, go in depth on local and global challenges and dilemmas, and exploring new strategies for action in development cooperation and policy.

When and where is SCSD 2019?
In Stockholm, Sweden on 19-20 November 2019 at Sida main offices on Valhallavägen 199.

Who will be there?
SCSD is an event for practitioners working for or with civil society organisations involved in Swedish international development cooperation. This will also include representatives from government authorities, international partners, other actors involved in Swedish development cooperation, as well as representatives from the bilateral and multilateral donor community. Approximately 300 people will attend SCSD.  Participants are expected to have prior understanding and experiences to share on the topic of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Invitations and programme
SCSD is an invitation-only event. The two-day program includes plenary sessions and panels as well a wide variety of parallel sessions/workshops, which all will be incorporating interactive methods. SCSD is a unique occasion to network and share best practices on civil society’s engagement in international development cooperation. The plenary sessions will be live streamed, and sign language interpreted.

SCSD primarily gathers representatives working for or with civil society engaged in Swedish development cooperation. It’s an opportunity to jointly discuss and define both challenges and strategies in order to capitalize our efforts to Leave No One Behind.
